The Ambassador Super Cinema:
The Story of Salford's Lost Art Deco Treasure - (1928-2004)
In 2001, a group of passionate locals banded together to save the Ambassador Super Cinema for future generations.
They formed The Ambassador Project, and this is the story of the cinema and their valiant efforts to preserve its legacy
Architect John Knight beautifully captured his vision for the Ambassador Super Cinema in a signed watercolour painting, showcasing the "imposing" façade of his latest design. The cinema, which opened on Christmas Eve, 1928, was an architectural gem on Salford’s Langworthy Road.
Above is the original watercolour re-imagined for the Christmas Eve 1928 opening night.

This site is dedicated to honouring the tireless work of those who fought to save the Ambassador, despite facing overwhelming odds. These included the influence of big business, an apathetic council, the indifference of the local MP, and the unbelievable role played by English Heritage, whose actions contributed to the delisting and ultimate loss of this beautiful building.
